If you think post-mortem resuscitation is unscientific, study cryptobiosis in ancient paleobiology. In 2021 (Current Biology), Russian scientists revived bdelloid rotifers frozen in Siberian permafrost for 24,000 years; they immediately thawed, fed, and reproduced. Even more staggering: in 2023 (PLOS Genetics), nematodes (Panagrolaimus kolymaensis) suspended in Siberian permafrost for 46,000 years were successfully resuscitated. Nature has already solved suspended animation over geological timescales. Complex neuromuscular coordination, sensory organs, and reproductive systems can survive absolute metabolic cessation with zero informational decay, provided ice crystal shear is prevented.
