From a regulatory and compliance standpoint, the fund's adherence to 1940 Act mutual fund rules imposes strict limitations on leverage and liquidity management, which fundamentally differentiates its risk profile from private offshore macro pools.

From an academic and PhD research angle, the core premise of using advanced econometric algorithms to mimic discretionary macro managers relies heavily on historical stationary relationships that often break down during structural macroeconomic transitions.

Running capital allocation models for our macro hedge fund, we view HFGM as an interesting benchmark for peer performance rather than a core holding. The inability to participate in off-exchange private placements or highly bespoke over-the-counter derivatives limits its true macro opportunity set.
