On our desk, looking at LFAI's market cap of roughly $4.35M and an average daily volume of less than 10 shares, liquidity is an immediate dealbreaker. Even though Stone Ridge provides a neat actively managed U.S. Treasury strategy targeting 2050, the bid-ask spreads exceeding 220 basis points mean retail investors would lose a year or more of income simply entering and exiting the position.

As a risk manager reviewing the fund's yield metrics, I note a massive disconnect between the headline TTM dividend yield sitting near 13.7% and the actual SEC yield of 4.43% to 4.65%. The high distribution number is heavily driven by a return of principal rather than pure income, which explains why the share price has trended downward from its late 2024 launch peak above $186 to the mid-$140s.

From a quantitative structuring perspective, LFAI utilizes U.S. Treasury STRIPS and longevity-linked instruments to build its target-maturity payout model. While the 0.25% expense ratio is quite reasonable for an active wrapper, the 131% turnover rate and 23 total holdings require careful monitoring of how cash flows are recycled through 2050.

As an asset analyst evaluating the fund's price action, LFAI is currently trading below all major tracked moving averages, hovering around a 52-week range of $145 to $167. While the promise of locking in today's Treasury rates through 2050 sounds compelling on paper, the secondary market execution friction makes it practically unusable for standard tactical allocation.

Tracking institutional ownership data for Q2 2026, we see capital invested by hedge funds and institutions dropped by about 22% down to $1.97M across just 4 holders. With existing positions being reduced and minimal fresh interest, institutional sponsorship for LFAI remains thin and localized.
