Dealer gamma exposure on PSET creates elevated volatility near the current strike cluster. Not adding exposure until after the backlog data clears.
On our desk, we are closely monitoring the August 17, 2026 supplement notice regarding PSET. With the Board of Trustees approving a Plan of Liquidation and Termination on August 11, 2026, creation orders have stopped, and the fund is preparing for its final day of trading on the Nasdaq. This completely changes our risk calculations for any remaining inventory.
As a risk manager looking at PSET, the sequence of events has been quite sudden. Earlier in the summer, there was a proposal to change its diversification classification from diversified to non-diversified, which was subsequently cancelled. Shortly after withdrawing that proposal, the board pulled the plug entirely with a liquidation plan.
From a quant perspective, PSET showed a trailing 3-year standard deviation of 13.72 and a beta of 0.98 against a backdrop of moderate-to-aggressive risk scores around 74 from Morningstar. However, historical risk-return metrics are now secondary given the hard liquidation announcement and the cessation of trading.
Reviewing institutional participation data for Q2 2026, 22 hedge funds and large institutions had roughly $25.1M invested in PSET, with 4 funds opening new positions and 3 increasing them. Analysts tracking these flows must now account for how these institutional holders will manage their exits during the termination process.
Market sentiment around PSET shifted instantly from neutral operational tracking to wind-down mode. The fund's primary strategy of targeting quality companies with strong pricing power and high barriers to entry will no longer be executed via this specific vehicle following the termination decision.
