On our desk, we are closely tracking SiriusPoint's deliberate portfolio shift away from property catastrophe reinsurance toward Insurance and Services. With IandS gross written premiums up 15% in Q2 and now making up 67% of core gross written premium, the pivot is clearly dampening volatility. The 91.4% core combined ratio reported for Q2 proves that management's quality-over-quantity strategy in underwriting is bearing fruit right on schedule.
As a risk manager reviewing the capital structure, I find the 239% estimated Bermuda solvency ratio and $1.1 billion in total liquidity highly comforting. Management has successfully defended the balance sheet while returning $295 million to shareholders YTD in 2026, including $95 million via common share repurchases. This disciplined capital allocation creates a strong downside cushion for equity holders.
Looking at the valuation metrics and the recent Type A value-style analysis scoring SPNT at 97 with a target price of $27.67, the market appears to be slowly recognizing the earnings power here. Generating a 14.7% operating ROE for the first half of 2026 puts them right in line with their across-the-cycle operating ROE target of 12% to 15%. Core ROE hitting 16.2% is an exceptional print for a specialty insurer.
From a quantitative perspective, the drop in reinsurance premiums by 8.9% in Q2 versus the 15% expansion in IandS highlights an aggressive repositioning away from underpriced casualty and property cat lines. While this top-line contraction in reinsurance looks like a headwind on paper, the lower catastrophe losses and stronger risk-adjusted margins validate the trade-off, driving a 44% year-on-year increase in H1 net income available to common shareholders.
Hedging with Q4 put spreads requires watching how the London MGA specialty lines, accident and health, and general liability portfolios scale up to offset the runoff operations. Core gross written premium for H1 reached $1.98 billion, up 3.4% year-over-year. As long as the core combined ratio remains tightly controlled around the low-90s, the earnings baseline looks secure against unexpected macro shocks.
